Week 8. It’s All About The State Playoffs Now

As district games are being played as we head toward Week 8 in the 2025 high school football season, it is all about the post season now.

This is the time of year that local programs in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties are looking past this area and setting their sights on the rest of the state and where they would be slotted in the Race To Miami in December.

For the first month and a half, it was all about testing the waters to see which programs were true contenders, and by now, everyone has a good idea who will be the favorites to end up at FIU for the state championships.

The season has moved along and here are those area programs that figures to be in the mix over the next month:

1 Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas (5A, 5-1). The Raiders were off as they prepared for tomorrow’s (Wednesday) game in England against the NFL Academy.  this past week. NEXT WEEK: 10/17 – Coconut Creek Monarch.

2. Miami Northwestern (3A, 5-1). The Bulls beat No. 5 Miami Central in their annual clash, 30-21. THIS WEEK: 10/11 – Key West. NEXT WEEK: 10/17 – No. 8 Miami Palmetto (GMAC WEEK).

3. Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna (1A, 5-1). The Lions won a weather-shortened 28-7 game against No. 17 Coconut Creek Monarch. THIS WEEK: 10/10 – Pompano Beach Blanche Ely. NEXT WEEK: Bye.

4. Miami Southridge (6A, 6-0). It was nearly a month, but the Spartans came from behind to beat No. 20 Miami Christopher Coumbus, 28-21. THIS WEEK: 10/10 – Southwest Miami. NEXT WEEK: 10/18 – No. 5 Miami Central (GMAC WEEK)

5. Miami Central (3A, 5-1). The Rockets dropped a 30-21 decision to longtime rival and No. 3 Miami Northwestern, 31-20 and then bounced back on Monday with a 52-0 win against Pompano Beach. THIS WEEK: 10/10 – Fort Lauderdale Stranahan. NEXT WEEK: 10/18 – No. 4 Miami Southridge (GMAC WEEK).

6. Fort Lauderdale Dillard (4A, 7-0). The Panthers came up with their school record fifth shutout of the season in the annual Broward Soul Bowl against Pompano Beach Blanche Ely, 35-0. THIS WEEK: 10/10 - @Lake Worth Dr. Joaquin Garcia. NEXT WEEK: Bye.

7. Hialeah Gardens Mater Academy (5A, 6-0). The Lions have shown that they have a loaded team as they wrapped up the district title. THIS WEEK: 10/11 – Pembroke Pines Charter. NEXT WEEK: 10/17 - @Lakeland Lake Gibson.

8. Miami Palmetto (7A, 6-1). The Panthers won their third straight game and all but wrapped up the district title with a 43-0 win against Coral Gables. They came back on Monday and beat Homestead, 40-0. THIS WEEK: Bye. NEXT WEEK: 10/17 – No. 2 Miami Northwestern (GMAC WEEK).

9. Pembroke Pines West Broward (6A, 4-2). The Bobcats were off after winning twice in one week. THIS WEEK: 10/10 - @Miami Beach. NEXT WEEK: 10/16 – Miramar.

10. Plantation American Heritage (4A, 3-3). The defending 4A state champion Patriots won for the second straight week, 31-0, against Pembroke Pines Flanagan. THIS WEEK: 10/10 – No. 14 Miami Norland. NEXT WEEK: 10/17 - @ No. 17 Southwest Ranches Archbishop McCarthy.

11. Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons (2A, 4-2). The Chiefs made it two straight with a 51-14 win against Hallandale. THIS WEEK: 10/10 - Deerfield Beach. NEXT WEEK: 10/16 - @Boca Raton.

12. Miami Immaculata LaSalle (2A, 5-0). The Royal Lions remained unbeaten with a convincing 42-0 win against Pembroke Pines Somerset Academy. THIS WEEK: 10/10 – Miami Springs. NEXT WEEK: They will play two games – 10/14 – Miami High. 10/18 – Miami St. Brendan.

13. Coconut Creek (5A, 6-1). The Cougars continued this impressive season with a 45-6 win against Hollywood South Broward. THIS WEEK: 10/10 – State-rated and unbeaten Delray Beach Atlantic. NEXT WEEK: Bye.

14. Miami Norland (4A, 3-4). The Vikings rebounded from two straight losses with a huge win over three-time defending 2A state champion Cocoa, 28-6. THIS WEEK: 10/10 – No. 10 @Plantation American Heritage. NEXT WEEK: 10/17 – @ No. 20 Miami Christopher Columbus (GMAC WEEK).

15. Hollywood McArthur (5A, 4-2). The Mustangs posted their second straight shutout, 35-0, over Deerfield Beach. THIS WEEK: 10/11 - Lauderdale Lakes Boyd Anderson. NEXT WEEK: 10/17 – Fort Lauderdale.

16. Miami True North Classical Academy (1A, 3-2). The Titans won for the third straight time, 28-8, over Jacksonville University Christian. THIS WEEK: 10/10 - @Miami Jackson. NEXT WEEK: 10/17 – Boynton Somerset Canyons.

17. Southwest Ranches Archbishop McCarthy (4A, 5-1). The Mavericks were off after a solid start to the season. THIS WEEK: 10/10 – Plantation. NEXT WEEK: 10/17 – No. 10 Plantation American Heritage.

18. Coconut Creek Monarch (6A, 3-3). The Knights dropped a rain-shortened 28-6 decision to No. 3 Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna. THIS WEEK: 10/9 – Coral Springs. NEXT WEEK: 10/17 – No. 1 Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas.

19. Fort Lauderdale Calvary Christian Academy (2A, 5-1). The Eagles won for the third straight time, 14-6, against Miami Gardens Monsignor Pace. THIS WEEK: 10/9 - Coconut Creek North Broward Prep. NEXT WEEK: 10/17 - @Boca Raton Saint Andrew’s Academy.

20. Miami Christopher Columbus (7A, 2-5). The Explorers beat Miami High last Thursday, 50-0, but then dropped a 28-21 decision to No. 4 Miami Southridge in a game that was resumed in the third quarter. THIS WEEK: 10/9 – Coral Gables. NEXT WEEK: No. 14 Miami Norland (GMAC Week).
