It is hard to believe that we have already reached the fifth week of the 2026 high school season here in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties.

With so much at stake as far as the state playoffs, district games will now start to pop up and every contest played will reflect on which programs will advance to the post season.

While that dream of being part of the inaugural “Open Division” in the Sunshine State may not be a reality for some, playing for a state title in six other classes – plus several independent leagues – is something that these weeks are all about.

Starting today, there will be a few matchups that can go a long way in determining what programs will extend their season – while others will go back to the drawing board, attempting to put the right pieces together for a future run.

Doral Academy (2-1, 1-0) at Pembroke Pines West Broward (0-3, 0-1), (Cypress Bay), 7. A key District 15-6A matchup where Doral Academy, Cypress Bay and Davie Western are all 1-0. A win by the Firebirds will put them in a great position. The Bobcats cannot afford to lose. It is indeed a must win.

The defending 6A state runner up West Broward and head coach Brian McCartney have played well at times, but the schedule is indeed one of the toughest in south Florida – while head coach Eddie Delgado and his team continue to improve.

Miami True North Classic Academy (0-3) at Miami Southridge (1-2), 7. Another non district game, but one that can out both teams back on the winning track.

The Titans and head coach Greg Laferre, who have a crazy tough schedule, are Class 1A and have a much easier route to a playoff spot – while the Spartans and veteran coach Pierre Senatus truly need this win to put them back in a position to finish off a competitive schedule and reach the post season.
