Week 11 Wrap: Western & Miramar Get Defensive – Again!

The final week of the 2021 high school football regular season came and went without anything major happening in south Florida.

With the start of the playoffs this week, this past week was somewhat of a formality – as many programs either had the week off or saw their finale get postponed by bad weather on Friday.

WESTERN AND MIRAMAR LIVED UP TO THE HYPE

If you had watched the 7A Miramar Patriots and 8A Western Wildcats perform this season, you were not caught off guard by the 13-9 score. Western and head coach Adam Ratkevich are a No. 1 seed, and the defense will certainly ensure that this program will be tough to beat in the playoffs. They had the right balance of offense and an opportunistic defense to win.

SOMERSET SILVER PALMS COMES UP BIG

The Miami Northwestern coaching tree continues to spotlight some impressive coaches – such as Nitro Baker at Somerset Academy Pembroke Pines, which beat previously unbeaten Miami Florida Christian, 16-6, posting a 7-2 record and looking really impressive. This is a program that continues to build.

AVANT GARDE MAKE THE BIGGEST SPLASH

In his very first season at Hollywood’s Avant Garde Academy, head coach Daniel Luque and his Sharks have really lived a dream – completing an unbeaten regular season and grabbing of the No. 1 seed in 2A. But understand that the No. 2 seed is two-time defending state champion Hialeah Champagnat Catholic – where the Lions are looking for an amazing sixth straight state finals appearance. Avant Garde Academy beat Somerset Silver Palms, 30-6,
