Versatile Defensive Linemen Make A Statement At South Florida Combine

It’s been eight days since the South Florida Combine – Miami stop took place and the talk continues about the talent that showed up.

With several positions being recapped so far, college coaches across the country along with fans have had the opportunity to read all about these impressive young men who headed out to Ives Park.

When the organizers of the combine told all in attendance that every player who came out would be recognized not only in the coming weeks, but over the next few years, there were those who simply did not buy into it.

Past camp and combine experiences for many have come down to spending their money, being told how the event would help them – and unless you were a high star-rated athlete your time at the event was over and your name would never be put out again.

With quarterbacks, running backs, receivers, offensive linemen and linebackers already getting the chance to gain that promised exposure, today the spotlight is directly on the defensive linemen.

Here is a look at some who learned and had the chance to see what a combine provided:

2024

Roosevelt Caldwell Jr., DE, 5-10, 255, Pompano Beach Blanche Ely – 3.5 GPA. One of the rising prospects who has the opportunity to establish himself as one of those prospects to keep an eye on as he comes over from Deerfield Beach. As he learned in the combine, hard work and knowledge will carry you a long was, as will the work in the classroom.

Omar Kinsler, DE, 6-4, 188, Port St. Lucie Treasure Coast – 3.4 GPA. One of the quality football talents who comes from a solid program that teaches and plays a competitive schedule. This is a standout athlete who could blow up this coming season, and spending time at off-season events will add to that growth.

Christopher Williams Jr., DE, 6-1, 215, Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons – 2.97 GPA. If you’ve followed this program for any length of time, you already know what kind of football prospects this team produces, and this young man certainly has a chance to be as productive as any. A versatile player that can lineup at several positions on the defense and do very well.

2026

Jordan Canas, DE, 5-11, 195, Miami St. Brendan. When we focused in on this young man a few days ago, it was as a tight end prospect. So now a few days later and we are looking at him as a quick defensive end that has plenty of athletic ability to make sure that he is noticed. Has a chance to make so much happen up front, and that’s why head coach Steve Smith will use him when needed.

Jeremiah Haggins, DL, 5-9, 160, Miami Dr. Michael Krop. You can already see why this impressive talent will be special. Following in the footsteps of his brother, who is a rising senior quarterback for the Lightning, this is an athlete who will grow and if he stays on the defensive line, it will be very interesting to watch how he matures and grows.

Dasean Miller, DE, 6-1, 225, Pompano Beach Blanche Ely – 3.2 GPA. If you look at the way the Tigers turned things around this past season, all you have to do is check out young, versatile prospects like this who can play outside linebacker as well as make a difference at the defensive end position. Solid talent who will continue to emerge this coming season.

2027

John Gay III, DE, 6-0, 155, Glades Middle School – 3.2 GPA. It’s always fun to have young football talent show up to a combine as they use the experience to make a solid future in the sport. While he is in middle school, this is someone who will have a chance to emerge at a number of positions. Starting out as a defensive end, you can already see what he brings to the table.
