SPRING FOCUS: Weaver, Coral Springs Remain Confident

Imagine you are a first year coach who has plans how to build a program into a contender – once again.

As soon as you get all your plans in order and get the off-season ready, Covid hit, and the rest has been history.

The former NFL standout Leonard Weaver, who has been involved in coaching among other business interests, has been confident about the team he has now – and moving forward.

While his first year as head coach at Coral Springs was certainly a challenge and many curve balls were thrown, the Colts finished 3-3, and there was progress made.

In a season where teams had to be creative with their scheduling, this program came up with wins over Taravella, Northeast and Flanagan, and in the process gained plenty of confidence.

RISING SENIORS WILL TELL THE STORY

As we head toward spring football, there are going to be plenty of questions answered. One of them will have to be what players will grab the leadership role and are hungry to lead the way.

Among those gifted rising seniors in the Class of 2022 include Owen Noel Jeune (LB/TE/Punter, 6-1, 200 – 3.2 GPA), Nazzir Aiken (DB/WR, 5-11, 165 – 3.0 GPA), Junior Jean (LB/DB, 5-11, 195 – 2.7 GPA), Cody Pendergrass (WR/TE/DE, 6-0, 200 – 3.0 GPA), Michael McFarlin (LB/DL, 6-0, 200 – 3.85 GPA), Kendrick Flint (DB, 6-0, 170 – 2.6 GPA), Tariq Barnes (LB/DE, 5-11, 235 – 3.01 GPA) and Tariq Laurent (TE/DE, 5-11, 225 – 3.01 GPA).

CLASS OF 2023 WILL BE A BIG HELP

With several key rising seniors playing a major part of the growth and success of the Colts, there will be some impressive Class of 2023 talent that will also be important.

A number of rising juniors figure to give Coach Weaver and his staff some fresh playmakers this spring and into the summer.

Among those athletes will be Winston Mathurin (OL, 6-4, 220 – 3.5 GPA) and versatile (QB/WR) Tony Martin, a 5-7, 170-pounder, who has a 3.6 GPA.
