When news came down that Plantation, which was just an 8A school not too long ago, was moving down to 6A this season, veteran head coach Steve Davis treated it as another year.

Because his teams have had to clash with national powerhouses like St. Thomas Aquinas and others through the years, Davis and his Plantation Colonels will do what they do every year – play hard, compete and churn out talent.

Coming off a 4-2 season – with losses coming in the Tri-County Championships to Delray Atlantic and Western in the season opener – this program will not dwell on the negatives. Those losses in a pandemic year went a long way in getting many prospects a chance to play.

Like every other school in south Florida, Plantation will be up against competition, but isn’t that what this is all about? The best talent in the country resides right here in the #305, #954 and #561.

While those losses were tough, it only put more emphasis on the wins this team had – and the players who were given an opportunity to showcase their many skills. Several of those talented young men are back.

The Class of 2022 is indeed loaded with experience and talent.

Offensively, look for prospects Jalen Awai (WR, 5-9, 165), David Dorzie (WR, 6-0, 165), Tremain Humphrey (OL, 6-2, 200), Ricardo Jones (TE, 6-1, 200), Jonathan Presendor (OL, 6-4, 255), Kristopher Ratliff (OL, 6-0, 205) and two-year starter Shomari Seymour (OL, 6-6, 300).

On defense, the Colonels are always loaded up with gifted players – like Carl Anderson (DE, 6-1, 200), Arthur Clark (CB,6-1, 165), Elijah Davis (S, 6-0, 165), Herbert Dawson (DT/Edge, 5-10, 220), Gabe Elmaadawy (CB/S, 5-11, 175), Jaquan Haynes (CB, 5-9, 160), Jermarein Jeudy (LB, 6-1, 185), Shomari Knight (LB/SS, 5-11, 190), Kenyatta Lawery (CB, 5-10, 170), Eric Lyons (S/CB, 5-8, 160), Maquavion Parks (CB/S, 5-9, 155) and linebacker Keyondre Young (6-0, 200)

A LOADED FUTURE IN PLANTATION

While the rising senior class has talent and experience, the rising junior class in 2023 appears to be stacked with athletes who can help immediately – as starters – or as much-needed depth.

Pospects to keep an eye on in this group include Christopher Anderson (LB, 5-9, 165), Chase Ballard (WR, 5-9, 155), Regginald Clem (LB, 5-10, 180), Tavaris Council (S/RB, 5-9, 165), Sam Estil (OG, 6-2, 230), Jamari Haynes (WR/CB, 5-9, 160), Darwsen Saint-Hilaire (CB, 5-11, 165) and defensive end/edge rusher Darryl Joyner (6-1, 200).

Also, Nathaniel Lully (LB, 5-11, 170), Jayden Massey (DE/OLB, 5-11, 190), Jakari Moya (WR, 6-2, 175), Bryant Nortelus (DT, 6-0, 225), Dorian Sampson (RB, 5-9, 165) and receiver Shawn Williams (5-8, 160) will be special as well.

The Class of 2024 will also feature some impressive talent – like Chad Braddy (WR, 5-10, 155), Ty George (WR, 6-0, 155), Reginald Johnson (RB, 5-10, 165), Kody Lane (TE, 6-3, 170) and linebacker Nikolas Maalouf (5-9, 185).
