SPRING FOCUS – Doral Academy Has A Solid Plan For The Future

There was nothing easy or normal about the 2020 high school football season. Coach Eddie Delgado will certainly tell you.

Finishing 3-5 in a crazy season, the Doral Academy Firebirds had to play the pandemic game – which included games against 2A state champion Hialeah Champagnat Catholic, 4A state champion Cardinal Gibbons, improving Clewiston and West Palm Beach Cardinal Newman. Never an easy schedule – even if there was no pandemic.

What the Firebirds did do this past season, and its carrying over this spring, is work hard, attend as many competitive showcases as possible.

What this spring did for the program is give the prospects an opportunity to get some film and at least start some dialogue with colleges.

Class of 2022 athletes like, Nicolas Pelaez (DB,  6-0, 175), impressive studcent/athlete Michael Lomonaco (RB, 5-11, 175), Julian Gonzalez (OT, 6-5, 285), Andres Martinez (LB, 6-1, 185) and receiver Julian Polo (5-8, 165).

While there are some impressive leaders in the rising senior class, the Class of 2023 will be stocking the team with some standout talent – like Ryan Gonzalez (RB/WR, 5-9, 150), Nicholas Jacoby (LB/S, 5-10, 170), Da’von Johnson (DB 6-2, 165), Alexis Mendizabal (OT, 6-2, 255), Rolando Diaz (LB, 5-9, 185), Stefano Digabriele (G/DT, 5-10, 225) and receiver Mark Cohen (5-9, 160).

The Firebirds also boast quality talent like Adrian Hernandez (DT/G, 5-9, 205), Evan Tome (TE/LB, 6-0, 185), Darren Silva (DB/RB, 5-9, 160), Aidan Spencer (OC, 5-10, 220) and running Jorge de la Nuez (5-9, 165).
