SPRING FOCUS – Calvary Christian Remains Playoff Focused

It has been said over and over again that one of the best – and most underrated stories in south Florida is what has been unfolding the past few season at Calvary Christian.

What head coach Kirk Hoza and his staff have been able to accomplish, with very little fanfare or publicity, is indeed special.

Top seed in 3A two years ago, well over 20 combined wins the past three seasons and developing student/athletes who have been on the college radar for several years.

After a 6-1 pandemic season, there is so much to be excited about.

Even though they dropped a 38-6 playoff decision to state power Chaminade-Madonna, the Eagles are certainly in great hands this spring – with a number of quality prospects returning for the 2021 season.

Wins over West Palm Beach Cardinal Newman (19-0), Everglades Prep (50-0), Clewiston (26-21), American (32-0), King’s Academy (36-0) and Palm Glades Academy (50-6) gave this program plenty of confidence, heading into the off-season, and it has shown this spring.

RISING SENIORS READY TO TAKE LEADERSHIP

With the graduation of some quality talent from last year, the Eagles will now look toward the next class – and that is the rising seniors in 2022.

Among those ready to take that leadership and help pave the way for a successful 2021 season includes standouts versatile standouts Jackson Baird (OL/DL, 6-3, 210), Eric Trowbridge (RB/DB, 5-10, 165) and Berton Venter (FB/LB, 6-0, 235) – all have shown that they have what it takes to keep this team in the spotlight.

In addition, keep an eye on Matt Ahmed (K, 5-9, 150), Tommy Harley (OL/DL, 6-5, 250), Quinn Katz (OL/DL, 5-11, 265), Brady Kelly (QB, 6-1, 200) and two-way lineman James Poulos (OL/DL, 6-1, 285).

CLASS OF 2023 PROSPECTS ALSO UP FOR THE CHALLENGE

Smaller schools usually rely on depth on both sides of the ball – and in 2021 – get ready for a very gifted 2023 (rising junior class) talent.

Among those prospects to keep an eye on, feature Cooper Aurilla (WR/DB, 6-0, 150), Cole Baird (OL/DL, 6-3, 200), Reggie Heywood (RB, 5-9, 150), Lucas Mielke (FB/LB, 6-0, 205) and Miles Moss (WR/LB, 5-10, 160).
