PRE-SPRING: Monsignor Pace Looking For Another State Playoff Run

While the Miami Gardens Monsignor Pace Spartans finished 7-5 this past season, there was much to like about the way things worked out.

All the losses that this team had came at the hands of state playoff teams, and because of that schedule and being in the same district as powers Miami Central and Miami Norland, it earned them a spot in the post season.

When the season ended, head coach Anthony Walker, his coaching staff and returning players looked at the season and knew that if they could work hard this off-season and into the spring and summer, the results could change.

While the objective is certainly to get back to the state playoffs, there is also a need to develop players and not only set the table for 2024, but the future as well.

This is a team that has athletes who want to play the game and get better – and it reflects at the top with the rising senior (2025) class.

The group has talent, experience and is developing leadership which will ne key with so many underclassmen waiting to follow and add depth.

Among those seniors include Willie Anderson (WR, 5-11, 160 – 2.8 GPA), Brinley Armand (OL, 6-3, 235 – 3.1 GPA), Jayden Armstrong (DB, 5-7, 160), Sincere Benjamin (LB/SS, 6-0, 200 – 2.7 GPA), Marlon Brown Jr. (DB, 5-10, 165 – 2.5 GPA), Joshua Burgos (OL, 6-3, 315), Gabriel Cline (WR/TE, 6-3, 210 – 4.0 GPA), Justin Fowler (DB/WR, 5-7, 140 – 3.1 GPA), and quarterback Mycah Johnson (6-0, 190 – 3.3 GPA).

The class also features Kamari Kendrick (DE/LB, 5-11, 215 – 2.7 GPA), Merrick Martino (DB, 5-11, 180 – 3.8 GPA), Sean Ponder (QB, 6-2, 210 – 3.0 GPA), heavily recruited Wilnerson Telamaque (DE, 6-6, 240 – 2.7 GPA), Jaiden Toussaint (RB, 5-10, 170), and receiver Amare Whetsell (6-0, 170 – 3.2 GPA).

THE UNDERCLASS IS STACKED WITH TALENT

While the rising senior class will certainly be counted on for the experience and leadership, the underclassmen will be very valuable for the Spartans.

Among the rising junior (2026) class that we will hear about will be Daveon Black (WR/DB, 6-0, 180 – 3.6 GPA), versatile Damani Downs (WR/DB, 6-1, 165 – 2.6 GPA), heavily recruited Cleveland Gary III (LB, 5-11, 195 – 4.0 GPA), Marek Marcellus (DB, 5-10, 160 – 3.7 GPA), Dorrian Michel (OL/DL, 5-9, 300 – 3.0 GPA), Zachariah Nozile (LB, 5-9, 195 – 2.7 GPA), Antonio Owens Jr. (DB, 5-7, 140 – 3.5 GPA), Terrance Petit-Frere (RB, 5-9, 150 – 3.4 GPA), Amare Richardson (LB, 5-8, 165 – 2.5 GPA), and running back Rashad Wallace Jr. (5-8, 175 – 3.6 GPA).

The rising sophomore class in 2027 will also be a major part of the present and future of this program – with Nicholas Ariza (QB, 5-10, 160 – 3.2 GPA), Kahrim Bassette (WR, 5-7, 130 – 3.0 GPA), Calvin Etienne (DL, 6-1, 320), Jayden Govender (DB/WR, 5-5, 135), Andrew Gross (LB/TE, 5-9, 175), Jayden Gummer (LB/RB, 5-11, 185 – 3.6 GPA), and quarterback Korde Hinch (5-11, 180 – 2.5 GPA).

The class also boasts Tyre’ Lloyd (DB, 6-2, 160 – 2.8 GPA), Malik Meza (DB, 5-7, 150), Haendel Montlouis (OL, 5-8, 210 – 3.5 GPA), Demarcus Robinson (DB, 5-9, 140 – 2.7 GPA), Isaiah Thurston (RB, 5-6, 160 – 2.6 GPA), and linebacker Liam Vazquez (5-10, 180 – 3.2 GPA)
