Miami International Academy Is More Than The New Kid In The Block

As soon as this spring began, Coach Chuck Brown Jr. went to work building a program at the new Miami International Academy.

Brown, who has been aboard several building projects over the years – as well as coaching at the college level, took this program because he will have the opportunity to build it his way, and that comes with years of experience, and yes, trial and error.

What Brown and the Hurricanes are out to do in the first season is to compete. While depth may be the ultimate problem in the first year, the talent that this program starts out with will be competitive – as they showed in a spring win against Miami Braddock.

The combination of Brown’s experience and coaching staff will continue to help a program that has some lofty expectations in the immediate future.

Also, Mike Tunsil, the owner of the school, once again has provided a forum for these student/athletes to get to the next level to continue realizing a dream.

With an eye on getting these athletes to the next level, the college contacts that Brown and this program has is unmatched. Years of relationships have added up, and college coaches have opened their arms to the senior class.

With summer college visits and workouts, this program has certainly hit the ground running – and with a game already under their collective belts – the sky is the limit.

LOOKING FOR AN EDGE

After the game against Braddock, the coaching staff looked at what they had to work on over the summer – and while the first year is always a chore – it may be eased with a group of seniors with experience.

Among those 2022 prospects include Amarie Archer (OL, 6-4, 310), highly recruited Mazio Randall (DL/OL, 6-4, 285), Kaylin Smith (OL, 6-5, 315) and Miami Edison transfer Yann Ulrich (RB/LB, 6-2, 225). All four of these talented prospects are leaders and have what it takes to make it to the next level.

UNDERCLASSMEN WILL BE VITAL

We already know that the younger players will be huge in this building process – with Class of 2023 juniors Tyrese Essix (OL/DL, 6-3, 250), Deshun Fleming (RB, 5-10, 170) and receiver Eric Seay (5-7, 150) giving this program a huge boost.

Add in Class of 2024 standouts Tomauri Johnson (CB, 6-3, 170) and Jaheim Miller (WR, 6-0, 175), and Class of 2025 linebacker Samuel Griffin (5-11, 205), and the Hurricanes have a true foundation to build this program.
