When veteran head football coach Tim “Ice” Harris took over at Mater Academy Charter earlier this year, the objective was to turn this program into a power among 5A schools.
With his coaching staff from Miami Booker T. Washington following him to Hialeah Gardens the process has been escalated, and tonight (7:00) when they take on North Miami, the Lions (2-0, 5-0) at Milander Stadium in Hialeah this program has an opportunity to move into first place all alone in District 16-5A play.
With three consecutive shutouts, this is not only a program that has made some noise locally, but the state of Florida is starting to watch a program that has been impressive – with several top-flight prospects making a major impact.
YOUNG PIONEERS HOPE TO SHARE THE SPOTLIGHT
While much of the attention will be paid to Mater Academy and the success they have achieved in a short period of time, head coach Gerald Cox and his North Miami squad had hoped to make this evening’s contest a battle of the unbeatens, but they dropped a tough game last week to Fort Lauderdale Calvary Christian Academy.
While college football will take the spotlight on Saturday, Mater Academy and North Miami will end Week 6 with a district game that could end up telling plenty come state playoff time.
