KICKING UP A STORM: South Florida Specialists Are Turning Heads

Throughout the years, kickers and punters in south Florida have always found themselves at the center of attention.

But over the past few years, things have changed – and with more instructors and competition – and more emphasis put on kicking and punting at the next level – the spotlight has never been so bright.

Having a handful of kickers head off to play major college football is a thing of the past. Now, with more emphasis put on the kickers and punters college – area high school prospects are being sought after like never before.

When we profiled this position back in January, several student/athletes had emerged – and seven months later – more specialists, in each class, have been added to that growing list.

In 2020, kickers now share the same spotlight as elite 5-star recruits. That’s how important the position has become in college and in the NFL.

This 2021 class alone features such big time prospects as Andy Borregales (Chaminade-Madonna, University of Miami commit), Noah Botsford (Fort Lauderdale St Thomas Aquinas), John Cannon, Davie University School, Colton Eisenberg (Coral Springs Coral Glades), Joshua Lopes (Doral Academy) and Leo Zuazo (Miami Northwestern).

All of those standouts have received offers – or are getting close to having one.

As good as the 2021 class has become, the gifted underclassmen in 2022 are equally as impressive.

Among those rising stars include: GianCarlo Abbate (Miami Christian), nationally-rated Will Bettridge (Miami Gulliver Prep), Dean Gordon (Fort Lauderdale Pine Crest), Jayden John (Miami Central), Eathan Moncada (Hialeah Champagnat Catholic), and emerging 2023 star Christian Silverstein (Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons).

While those standouts are getting plenty of attention, there are so many more who continue to put us on the map.
