MIAMI GARDENS – It’s July 10th, and with the high school football season some six weeks away, football is still taking center stage in south Florida.
With schools such as Sunrise Piper, Miramar, Miami Carol City, Hollywood South Broward, Coconut Creek and Hialeah on hand for a 7-on-7 format, linemen were getting an opportunity to learn and compete.
Football in this region of the country simply has no off switch, and when states across the country continue to compare what they do against Miami-Dade and Broward – year-round – it is indeed laughable.
Thanks to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes of south Florida and Coach Desmond Cook, six teams and several offensive and defensive linemen had the chance to get in some work – in the first of two days at St. Thomas University
From team walk through, warm up and stretch to individual and team event, there will be four practices over the two days as the competition gave many high school athletes and their coaches a huge advantage.
The Trench Warrior Camp gave athletes from the schools attending and many more the chance to elevate their game. The 7-on-7 was the perfect opportunity to gain an edge on the competition.
STARS SHINED ON THE OPENING DAY
While this has been a very productive summer for all schools in the Sunshine State, Thursday gave some prospects a chance to showcase the skills that have helped them to turn heads this spring and summer.
Among those on hand to grab some more spotlight included:
2027 – Santana Blount, WR, 5’9, 155, Miami Carol City. Ever since the beginning of the off-season, here is a gifted prospect that has had the spotlight shining brightly in his direction. There may not be a better slot route runner like this. Someone who always manages to get open and move the chains. He has a very high football IQ and his ability to make plays will certainly show up for the Chiefs in 2025. He is way beneath the radar screen, but that will not last long.

2026 – Terrell Evans, DE, 6’5, 220, Hialeah. This soon to be a four-year starter for the Thoroughbreds is indeed one of the elite prospects in south Florida this year. Has the potential to be a major recruit -with several colleges still watching. After a productive summer, he is do for a banner year.

2027 – Tyler Reid, RB, 5’8, 165, Miramar. Here is one of the fastest-rising junior running backs, who brings plenty to the table. Not only is he a solid line from scrimmage runner but also can catch and is a force on special teams with his track speed. The younger brother of University of Pittsburgh starting running back and special teams standout Desmond Reid.

2026 – Tevin Sutherland, DE, 6’1, 225, Coconut Creek. One of the under-the-radar talents who is coming off a huge spring and summer. Coming off just a seven-game season, he has worked hard the past six months and with his quickness, length and ability to read plays, will be someone you will want to follow. Watch him perform and he never gives up on plays!

2027 – Jahnard Young, RB, 5’11, 200, Sunrise Piper. While he is an unknown player in south Florida, here is someone who perhaps has the biggest upside of any running back in his class after a tremendous sophomore season at Vero Beach High. He is big, fast, powerful and is not easy to bring down. Keep your eye on his progress this season. You will be impressed.

“These two days gave these young men a chance to learn and get physical, competing against some quality talent,” Cook explained. “We have been doing this for a number of years, and it is certainly still very popular.”
