We probably say this every year, but the high school football season is certainly moving quickly. Maybe too fast for some.

When things kickoff today in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties, we will have reached the eighth week of the 2026 season, which signals that every game played will have some meaning for teams who are headed to the post season.

With district championships still at stake along with the inaugural “Open Division”, the next few weeks will define teams and players.

Key West (3-4, 2-1) at Miami Central (5-1, 3-0), Traz, 7. A win by the Rockets will all but wrap up the district title – with only North Miami Beach left. But this program – with next week’s GMAC Week matchup against Miami Christopher Columbus and a regular season-ending game against Miami Carol City will tell a lot about their post season plans. They will either play for the Open Division title or the 3A crown.
