THE SCOOP

When Rocco Casullo arrived on campus nearly two years ago, his objective was simple. Build this program up from the bottom.

Using plenty of young prospects, it was a given that of the Lightning was to flourish and return to where Mark Guandolo had them, the younger prospects would be needed.

With his many years of coaching and teaching the sport, and being around it all his life, Casullo understood that with the right mix of leadership and talent, this could be a program that would make some noise in the years to come.

As the 2022 season unfolds, there are number of football players who are on the roster, giving this program depth, but there is a group of rising juniors and seniors who have grown up the past two seasons, and they are indeed what this team will need to turn that corner.

Just missing out on the playoffs in 2021, the objective this coming season is to get in a position where the mix of youth and veterans will add up to something very positive.
