Class of 2022 Underrated South Florida Prospects

How do we determine who is being underrated?

Is it by the offers the athletes have? Is it by the “quality” of offers they are getting?

There are a number of football players in south Florida who have offers, and while they are offers you can commit with, are they really the best?

In this pandemic, where exposure and contact is limited, there have been a number of players who are being undersold to colleges – and that is happening plenty. Even though there are Zoom calls and other ways of communicating, it’s difficult to see an athlete go from 5-9, 180 in November to 6-1, 225 in May or June. Growth spurts can change the future course for so many athletes.

The one class that has experienced the toughest road over the past year is the Class of 2022. Talk about the lack of exposure. Last season, they had to yield to the 2021 senior, who were also having problems with getting noticed.

With no contact from college coaches, this has been a nightmare for many of these prospects – and while there has been some recruitment – it has been rough for everyone involved.

With the Class of 2022 now in the spotlight, we will look at five south Florida football players – who have received more attention away from home, but that is changing:

Isaiah Farris, CB, 6-1, 175, Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons. On a team loaded with athletes, here is someone who may have been one of the most overlooked prospects in south Florida. An extremely athletic and gifted football player who the Chiefs will rely on as they look for another 4A state title run.

Elijah McCantos, CB, 6-1, 170, Miami Edison. Here is one of the elite student/athletes who has everything you are looking for in a defensive playmaker. Is also an exceptional student in the classroom. Many are finding out much more about this young man here in the off-season.

Ryan Turner, DB, 6-0, 175, Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna. While things are starting to pick up, it took a while for colleges to understand how impressive this young man is. Quality football talent, who also gets it done in the classroom. Will end up as one of the best in Florida.

Zaylan Reese, WR, 6-1, 185, Miami Central. Having watched this impressive football talent for the past few years, this past season, during a 6A state title, he showed everyone that he is indeed one of the best receivers in a loaded south Florida. Impressive talent who will once again be the focus for the Rockets in 2021.

Ky’mani Williams, DE, 6-2, 235, Miami Northwestern. While he may be a heavily traveled student/athlete, here is a gifted young man who has been turning heads for three years – and as college coaches have the opportunity to see him perform, they will be more than impressed. Solid defensive force who will be amazing for the Bulls. Way under the radar.
