It may sound strange, but because of the “transfer portal” and the NCAA allowing athletes to have an additional year of eligibility, the Class of 2023 just may be the big winners over the next few years.
What the pandemic did – along with the “transfer portal” – is altered recruiting. Colleges are not needing as many prospects for this 2022 cycle, as schools are facing choices.
If you need a receiver, and south Florida is where you happen to recruit, it may be wise to hold off on getting too many in this class. Not when you have some of the best in the country – waiting for 2023. This is a group that has been turning heads for well over a year – and all have been show-stoppers at off-season events, which has prompted colleges and universities to offer – quickly!
Leading the way in that group is the country’s No. 1 receiver prospect in Brandon Inniss (6-0, 195), who starred the past two years at NSU University School before moving over to Plantation American Heritage.
Make no mistake, Inniss is at a different level, and anyone who believes otherwise needs to watch this game more. He defines programs because he is a big-time athlete. Receiver, defensive secondary, punter and anything you need in a major prospect.
While he is indeed a player who continues to elevate his game, he is certainly not alone. There are several elite prospects that continues to attract offers and plenty of interest.
Jalen Brown, 6-0, 200, Miami Gulliver Prep. Major star in the making. Someone who is fast, elusive and very smart. Having watched him the past two season, he can go anywhere he wants – and make an immediate impact. This is a talent that knows how to find the endzone. One that gets better and better.
Richard Dandridge, 5-10, 160, Homestead. Anyone who was watched this impressive football talent perform has walked away believing that this is one of the elite playmakers in south Florida. Here is quality football player who checks all the boxes.
Santana Fleming, 5-11, 170, Plantation American Heritage. After a freshman season at Miami Central and this past year at Miami Carol City, the off-season has been very kind to this impressive playmaker, who along with Inniss, will create headaches for Patriot opponents. Quick and a solid pass catcher.
Will Fowles, 6-4, 200, Miami Dade Christian. Yet another football talent that has blown up during the spring – and has been a major target for schools nationally. Watching him at several settings during the off-season, he is indeed one of the receivers who continues to get better all the time.
Andy Jean, 6-1, 170, Miami Northwestern. Talk to anyone who has watched this impressive talent perform – whether it was during the season or during spring and summer – and all will tell you that this is one of those pass-catchers who is as good as anyone in any class. Tremendous hands, excellent route running ability. Total package.
Arthur “A.J.” Jenkins, 6-3, 195, Coral Springs Coral Glades. One of the biggest secrets heading into the spring and summer as he made his way out west after starting at Cardinal Gibbons. Despite having a monster spring, this is someone who has turned heads everywhere this team went during the month of June. Another talent that continues emerge – in a major way!
David Jester, 6-1, 175, Homestead. From his youth football days to the past three years at the varsity level, here is someone who has proven that he can get it done anywhere you put him. Not only is he an exceptional receiver, but can also make a huge impact in the secondary if needed.
Nathaniel Joseph, 5-10, 175, Miami Edison. A mega star in the making since the 8th grade. Following in the footsteps of his cousins Hilton Joseph (North Miami) and Flex Joseph (Miami Central), college coaches we have spoke with believes that there afre few better nationally.
Adam Moore, 6-2, 200, Miami Booker T. Washington. There had been talk about this impressive playmaker re-classifying to 2022, for now he is still among the best in the nation – and was one of the first to emerge for the Tornadoes during his freshman season. Solid pass-catcher who has size, speed and is super versatile. Big time talent who will only get better in the years to come.
Lamar Seymore, 6-2, 180, Miami Central. From the first time we watched him play as a freshman, there was never any question how impressive this pass catcher is. Runs tremendous routes, has solid hands and continues to learn and mature. The younger brother of University of Miami freshman OL Laurence Seymore.
Hykeem Williams, 6-4, 200, Fort Lauderdale Stranahan. If you have followed football in south Florida the past few years, here is a prospect who has blown up as much as anyone. With limited football experience, this impressive athlete has shot up the recruiting charts – and with a solid junior season – watch out!
Jamarri Wright, 6-3, 170, Fort Lauderdale Dillard. With all the talent that the Panthers are bringing together, here is one who will be a major difference maker for the next two years. When watching him play, you see the little things that he is doing that adds up to being a more mature player – and giving this program yet another weapon. Keep your eye on him over the next two seasons.
